We’re looking for expert software engineers to help us build a series of major enhancements to our dating platform and infrastructure over the next 12 months and onwards. You’ll be working on high availability transactional systems, helping to analyse, design and implement improvements to ensure they can scale effectively, and understand the challenges in building a large, complex web application.

Here’s the sort of thing we’ve been getting up to in the engineering team recently:

We’ve been designing and implementing application and infrastructure components to support the rest of the business. We’re currently focusing on a multi-tier API to provide us with a base to start building mobile and Facebook applications on top of our existing platform.
Over the last 6 months we’ve built a series of components to handle the large volume of completely custom emails we generate and send each day. The system’s been known to hit peaks of 350 emails sent per second, with up to 1,500 statistics jobs per second for monitoring purposes.
Our current toolkit contains Ruby, MySQL, Redis, memcached, RabbitMQ, EventMachine, Sinatra and Git, so you need to have professional experience of most of these, but we’re open to using any new technologies that are a good fit for the work we’re doing.

We don’t expect you to know everything about our stack from the moment you arrive, but we do expect you to have a passion and flair for all things web tech, the accountability and responsibility to know that if a job’s worth doing it’s worth doing well and, in general, to be an excellent and willing developer capable of turning you hand to what ever challenge comes your way.

Our team of 20 developers and designers are focused on creating the very best online dating platform in the industry. We run thousands of white labelled subscription dating sites around the world, both own-brand and on behalf of partners. We’re highly profitable, growing quickly and want to recruit talented software engineers to provide the expertise to evolve our technology platform. While this position is intended to work alongside web developers, you’ll be building the platform rather than the web app layer so you will need to think throughout the stack.

We’re located in Windsor, west of London. We’re easily commutable from London (services from Paddington or direct from Waterloo), Reading, Staines or Slough. We have a relaxed, social office and we would love for you to work alongside us or we can also consider remote working if you’re too far away.

You’ll get a MacBook Pro to work on with a second display if you’re on-site and you’ll sit at a big desk. We have free posh coffee machines, orange juicers, catered breakfasts and free beer on a Friday (obviously not at the same time), games consoles, a football table and more.
